Rocky Mountain Bike Marathon Willingen

After the great race last week we headed to Germany for the weekend. A big race with a lot of top riders. We would start in very big boxes and Peter and I had to start at the back of box B. So first kilometers would already be a race to get to the front. On the uphill there was no problem, except for Peter who had a flat tire, but in the descent it was horrible. A lot of riders got of their bike which made it difficult and tricky. After 20K's I geared down to ride my normal pace. On the uphill before the feeding zone Bert en José Luca were there and so I refreshed bottles. The second round was harder. Also mentally.  At 70K's my pace dropped. But I was able to get through and felt good around the end of the second lap. On the uphill I spotted Peter who got me some new bottles and gels. He told me I was riding in 3th place. The first girls were long gone. I just tried to keep my tempo up, which wasn't easy. This lap was the most technical one. After 121 KM and 3600 altitude meters I finished. The speaker announced I was 3th woman on the long distance.

This was my first Rocky Mountain Bike Marathon Willingen but definitely not the last!
